In the month of May, thousands invade the small town of Cannes. Celebrities, filmmakers and press converge on this quiet small town. Forgotten Women and Their Impact

Throughout history there have been women that have changed the way we think, the way we dress, and what we consider acceptable behavior. While some of these women, like Cleopatra, Susan B. Anthony, and Harriet Beecher Stowe are household names, and we relegated some of the most inspirational women from history to the dusty pages of old books. Bringing some of their stories to light can help create another generation of young girls and women with the drive to change the future.

Some of these all but forgotten women have influenced history and politics. Eleanor of Aquitaine, France’s first Queen, was mother to two Kings of England. Her thoughts and political ideals helped form the basis of their reigns. Eleanor Roosevelt was more than just the wife of president. Consider one of his political aides, she went on to make human rights contributions and head the UN Human Rights Commission which drafted the Declaration of Human Rights 1947. These women, and others like them, changed history.

Other women have had an impact on the way we dress, take care of ourselves, and how the world views women. A great example of an influential woman who is all but forgotten is Helena Rubinstein, founder of one of the first cosmetic companies in the world. Thanks to women like Helena, the way we look and feel about ourselves has changed.

Taking the time to investigate the women of our past offers us an excellent opportunity to begin to change our future. Sometimes the smallest of contributions has the greatest impact.

Battling Hollywood: Dorothy Arzner

The days were once defined to censorship. Celluloid was intended to capture easy virtues; cinema was meant to celebrate mediocrity. Hollywood was a tangle of high production values and strict ethics — all of which were charted in the infamous Hays Code, a collection of taboos and societal concerns. It was an age of studio control… and feminine oppression.

In 1929 female directors were rare within the United States. While the early formats of silent films had offered a wealth of women (such as Alice Guy-Blaché, who created the first fully narrative piece: La Fée aux Choux), the introduction of sound — and its subsequent rules — created a quick decline. Hollywood was demanding much from its production teams, and the back-lots were pervaded by sexism.

There was still hope to find among the casting chairs, however: Dorothy Arzner.

Arzner — who began her career in 1927 — developed her unique style during the Silent Era, boasting independent characters and bold cinematography. Her films received wide praise, with Blood and Sand and The Wild Party considered to be among the best of the decade. The introduction of the Hays Code, however, caused many to assume that Arzner would lose her career.

She didn’t.

Instead she discovered ways to conform to the conditions of Hollywood, while subsequently injecting her projects with a feministic sensibility. Her characters were reflections of herself: consumed by struggles and the need for personal validation. Efforts like Christopher Strong and The Last of Mrs. Cheyney showcased brave women and unique photography. They were financial and critical successes.

And they, like Arzner herself, helped to usher in the progress that was to come.

Making a career choice is not only difficult, it requires some long-range thinking. Before you start investing money and time into preparing for your career, take some time to determine if your personal goals and career plans match up so that you do not have to make more difficult decisions later in life.

1) Make sure your career will allow you to fulfill your personal goals.

If you plan on having a family at some point in the future, then a career that requires you to travel extensively may not be the best choice. The balance between your career and your personal life in important. If you make the decision early in life to completely dedicate yourself to your career, then you do not leave time for you to pursue personal goals. Be sure that the career choices you make will allow you to still pursue your personal interests.

2) Have a passion for your career.

You will spend many weeks, months and years pursuing your career. Be certain that the career you choose is the one that you have a strong enough interest in that you can dedicate yourself to it. Research the training and education you will need to pursue your career and be sure that it is something you can dive into head first.

3) Talk to others.

Before you take on a career, talk to others that are already in the field to see what skills you will need and what the job entails.

Choosing the right career is an important decision. Do the research to make sure you make the right choice.

Why We Love Scary Movies

Most people like watching videos de terror. It is great to watch a spooky show that gets under your skin. For many movie fans, this is not the topic that is commonly discussed. Nonetheless, let’s take a look at why we like to be horrified when watching this movie.

For some people it is enjoyable to experience this cuddling up feeling. They want to feel protected. For them, this experience is more than just watching a thrilling show. But for the rest of videos de terror fans this is something else.

All scary movies have a bad character. It is commonly somebody or something so dreadful that we detest looking. Nonetheless, we do look and often enjoy every minute of it. Many bad horror movies characters are simply disgusting. There are not many that frighten us truly.

Nonetheless, there are some that we really like. Let’s take for example a film that is called a Silence of Lambs. Hannibal Lecter is one of the few bad characters who makes such an impression. Even in imprisonment he is very scary. Recollect the episode when he was imprisoned underground in the last cell of a high-security jail. He was not behind bars similar to other imprisoned. He was set behind unbreakable Plexiglas. It seems that this bad guy is worse than all other bad guys.

Similar to Hannibal, many scariest villains look real. They do not make an impression of an inconceivable creature. He is a human just like all of the other people that we meet every day. Yet he is evil beyond our imagination.

It is a fabulous scary movie that stays with us for long after watching it. We leave the cinema with gasps and tension is relieved. So then, why do we like them so much? For most people, it is the very scary when the villain and thrill burst out into the screen. He captivates our interest and will not let go, not even after the movie ends. That is why we like videos de terror. They make an everlasting impression on us.
