Have you ever looked at your favorite television show and wondered where the stars of those shows will be when there run on television is over? Have you looked years later and found that those former TV stars have nothing but a failed movie career to show for their TV retirement? Have you ever wondered why? The truth is the jump from TV to the silver screen is one of the hardest jumps to do. So many have tried and very few have succeeded at it.
So why does the jump rarely work? What’s the issue with going from one medium to the other? The hardest part is erasing the public perception. The longer and more popular your television show was and the more beloved your character is the harder it is to get from the small screen to the big screen. The truth is if you have played a character on television, then audiences accept you as that and it’s hard to get them to accept that you are now supposed to be someone else. It isn’t fair to the actor but it’s that kind of devotion and dedication that makes it so profitable for people to be on television.
The other factor has everything to do with timing. There is no substitute for making the jump to the big screen at the right time. Some actors tend to do it at the height of their fame, making audiences resent them. Others wait until the show has failed before heading out there when there star is no longer on the rise. The best choice is to do it at a time where there isn’t a frenzy and you can do it at your own pace. The truth is that there is no really sure fire way to jump from television to movies. You just have to do it and hope for the best.
