In the past few years there have been a number of sports films that concentrated on women and their role in particular sports. Among them are those which focused on women who entered the competitive and at one time men-only world of horse racing, as well as one that told of the difference that a real family made with its love of sportsin the life of a down-and-out young man.
Other films that presented women in strong sports roles included one that showed how an Olympic skiing hopeful for the 1970s winter games came back from a skiing accident that left her a quadriplegic, and became a schoolteacher. Other films have been made about women from various ethnic origins who overcame both prejudice and other obstacles to excel in their fields.
Granted, these may not be the films shown on some sports betting sites to entertain impatient sports betters, or the ones broadcast in the buildings where people congregate to learn how they did on the day’s betting rounds, but that doesn’t mean the message is diminished. In fact, some are messages from one of various organizations who are dedicated to keeping the role of women in film in all areas, including acting, directing, producing, and other parts of the film-making business.
These organizations showcase films such as those mentioned above, and work to ensure that women are afforded the same opportunities to make their mark on the film world as men are. From these efforts, it is possible that we will see more films that focus on sports-related subjects as they involve women.
The next time you watch a sports film that has features a sports betting site scene, also be on the look out for how women are portrayed in it. You may be surprised to find that they are almost as central to the plot as the sport itself.
